Trade brokenness for freedom
Are you having a hard time? Does it seem sometimes your life is broken?
The whole world is broken. All of us are messed up. I am. You are.
But God didn’t create us that way. He made a perfect world. The Bible says mankind ruined that perfection by disrespecting God and doing things our way instead of his way.
God designed his world to work in a certain way, but we insist on doing things our way. The Bible calls that “sin.”
God made us to be his friends. When we disrespect him and insist on doing things our way, we make ourselves his enemies.
Our rebellious, self-centered attitudes make us easy prey for the devil. The Bible says the devil is a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. We believe the devil’s lies and fall into his traps. We become slaves to whatever we think will make us happy.
But we never find happiness. All we find is pain, disappointment, and betrayal. Then we die.
What kind of life is that? It’s not the life God created you to have.
God created you to have peace and joy. He wants your life to have meaning and purpose. He wants your every need to be met. He wants the world to be a place of harmony and wholeness. He wants us to be free from greed and hatred, from oppression and injustice of every kind.
We try to get those things for ourselves, and we fail. That’s because we are broken. We are enslaved by a power stronger than ourselves. The whole world is filled with injustice and oppression.
The good news is that God has done something that makes it possible for us to be set free. There’s a way for us to overcome our brokenness.
God not only wants you to have his peace and joy, he is determined that one day the whole world will be filled with peace and joy. He is going to bring the world back full circle to the way he created it to be. God is determined to drive out oppression and fill the world with justice.
Would you like to see the whole world filled with justice? Would you like your own life filled with peace and joy?
God has done something to make that possible!
Jesus lived a life of perfect peace. Everywhere he went, he healed broken people and told them how to have God’s abundant life of joy and peace. The devil and his evil people hated Jesus, and they cooked up a scheme to kill him. But God even used Jesus’ death to bring us freedom.
Jesus allowed himself to be killed.
Why would anyone do that? Why would God in the flesh allow himself to be murdered?
The Bible says Jesus died to prove how much God loves us. His horrible death showed just how far God is willing to go to help us be free and whole.
Each of us has made ourselves an enemy of God. We are sinners. Jesus died so our sin and rebellion against God could be wiped away. The Bible says we not only can be God’s friends again, but we can be adopted into his family as his own children!
To prove God wants to give us new life – and is powerful enough to set us free – God raised Jesus from the dead and gave him new life.
We don’t have to be slaves to sin and death. We can have lives that are completely different. Jesus said it’s like being born a second time. The Bible says all the brokenness can be wiped away, and everything can be made brand new.
All of us are walking one of two roads in life. Jesus said we are either walking down a wide road that leads us into destruction, or we are walking up a narrow road that leads to life that is full, free, and forever.
Which road are you on? Which would you like to be on?
The only way to get on the road that leads to life is to trust God when he says that living his way is better than living our way. Through Jesus, God offers us the gift of new life.
All you have to do to receive that gift of new life is to admit to God that you need his help, that you want to be free of the brokenness, that you want to be an entirely new person and have new life. Tell him you are ready to trust him and live life his way.
Taking this step is simple, but it isn’t easy. The devil wants to destroy your life. Something inside you will always want to go back to doing things your way. Many people around you will be angry that you made this commitment. Sometimes slaves are afraid of freedom. But God plans to use you to help some of those broken people escape their slavery and find the peace and joy their hearts yearn for. God wants to bring his justice into your life, and he wants you to do justice for others.
Are you ready to start walking with Jesus up that narrow road that leads to life? All you have to do is tell God you want to honor him with your life and walk in his ways, that you know you need to be healed and set free, that you want to accept his gift of new life and be born again as his child.
Just speak to him in humility. You don’t even have to talk out loud. God hears your prayer, however you say it. Stop right now and just talk to God about it. [Want to live-chat with someone about this? Click here.]
